Entrevista a Paul Brown, creador del UFWC

 

En Nuestro Football tenemos el honor de entrevistar al creador del Unofficial Football World Champions, Paul Brown.

Mario Husillos (M): ¿Por qué decidiste crear el UFWC?

Paul Brown (P): Simplemente fue por diversión, para descubrir quien sería el campeón del mundo si miráramos atrás hasta el primer partido internacional en 1872. Además, es una gran manera de hacer de los amistosos internacionales partidos más interesantes, ya que a veces pueden ser aburridos.

M: ¿Como conseguiste hacer el UFWC famoso en todo el mundo?

P: No lo hice, simplemente los fans de alrededor del mundo oyeron hablar de él y empezaron a seguirlo, quizás esperando que su país lo ganara. Ahora, con cosas como Twitter, cuando hay un nuevo campeón la noticia se expande rápidamente entre los fans de todo el mundo, y los periódicos y webs se fijan en eso.

M: ¿Cuáles son tus planes futuros para el UFWC?

P: Sería genial tener un trofeo real para entregárselo a los campeones. Pero el UFWC no tiene ningún beneficio económico, así que nuestro trofeo, la Copa CW Alcock, es actualmente virtual. Nos encantaría encontrar un sponsor para hacer un trofeo real.

M: ¿Quién crees que es el mejor jugador que ha jugado un partido por el título de la UFWC?

P: Ésa es muy difícil de contestar. El máximo goleador del UFWC es el sueco Gunnar Nordahl, que marcó 29 goles en sólo 19 partidos por el título entre 1942 y 1947.

M: ¿Has pensado en hacer una versión de clubes del UFWC?

P: Algunos aficionados del foro del UFWC han intentado crear una versión de clubes, aunque no es parte de la web principal porque las cosas se volverían muy complicadas.

M: ¿Qué te gustaría decirle a los lectores del blog?

P: Venid y echad un vistazo a la web (Unofficial Football World Champions). España acaba de perder el título pero, ¿quién sabe lo que puede pasar en el futuro?

M: Why did you decided to create the UFWC?

P: It was just for fun, to work out who would be the world champions if you looked right back to the very first international match in 1872. Also, it is a great way to make international friendly matches more interesting, as they can sometimes be boring.

M: How did you manage to make the UFWC famous all over the world?

P: I didn't - it was just that fans from all around the world heard about the UFWC and began following it, perhaps hoping their country could win it. Now with things like Twitter, when there is a new champion news spreads really quickly among fans around the world, and newspapers and websites pick up on that.

M: What are your future plans for the UFWC?

P: It would be really good to have a real trophy to present to the champions. But the UFWC doesn't make any money, so our trophy, the CW Alcock Cup, is currently virtual. We'd love to find a sponsor to produce a real cup.

M: Who do you think is the best player to have played a UFWC title match?

P: That's very difficult to answer. The top goalscorer in the UFWC is Gunnar Nordahl of Sweden, who scored 29 goals in just 19 games between 1942 and 1947.

M: Have you worked out the idea of making a club version of the UFWC?

P: Some fans on the UFWC message board on the website have tried to create a club version, although it is not part of the main site because things would get too complicated!

M: What would you like to say to the blog readers?

P: Come along and have a look at the site. Spain has recently lost the UFWC title but who knows what will happen in the future?
